Akai Phifer is a Richmond, Virginia producer, mixing engineer, and mastering engineer whose work begins with feel. His production is rooted in sample-based hip hop and shaped by soul, jazz, atmosphere, grit, dusty drums, melodic fragments, and the imperfect sounds that give a record its own character. He values individuality over unnecessary polish, building around the voice and intent of the artist rather than forcing every record into the same finish.

First and foremost, Akai is the producer half of Cult Classic with emcee Sonny Kolfax. The duo gives his production a central artistic home: Sonny carries the writing and performance while Akai builds the musical world around it.
